At last!!!!We have been expecting this for over a decade. Some said it was commercial controversy’s fault; some supposed it was a deliberate hiatus in order for them to be fresh, but still groundbreaking, trendsetting and multi-influential as their last 2 releases were; for heavy / rock / prog music that is.
It is not about whether they surpass 10000 days’ success or not. The only thing that matters is whether the “Pink Floyd” of our times can maintain leadership status or not, amongst other bands of the genre that copy their sound (soen), or spinned off their sound (a perfect circle see below for links).
The title track sure gives us a fair example but without knowing what’s coming next, what will be the segue tracks, it is fair to say that we are eager with anticipation. Though tracks like Invincible and Descending were already showcased live we don’t really know what their final edit will be…Patience! We have waited for 13 years what is 2 days more? So hold on to your buckles, the magnificent TOOL band is about to embark to a new adventure of prog heavy / ethnic psychedelia filtered with tons of mathematics, superb orchestration and arrangements masterfully conceived and executed by the band members that are returning to reclaim the throne that no one dared (or could for that matter) to seize in this over-10-years of absence.
It is normal to be awaited more than Star Wars IX, or anything in the music business (perhaps a new Led Zeppelin album could create more stir); it is normal to wait for it with a slightly exaggerating; e.g. as a Loudwire editor states in an article about tracklisting the new album (about a segue nevertheless): «Fear Inoculum’s fifth track, “Legion Inoculant,” is a transitional piece between “Invincible” and “Descending.” Don’t listen if you’ve ever been abducted by aliens… this track will give you unpleasant flashbacks.»
So waiting to be abducted by aliens whilst hearing to the new TOOL album, let us remind the Kokdi references and enjoy their music through extensive playlists that have the new ones, the known ones, the fan made and the rare ones, all in a bundle of joy!
So rejoice!! 4863 days later we have new material to sink our ears to….
